These folks have done what the US Judicial system has repeatedly stated- the police have no duty to protect you, YOU are responsible for your own protection [and that of others as state laws allow]. see DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services, 109 S.Ct. 998 (1989) at 1006 see also Warren v. District of Columbia, 444 A.2d 1 (D.C. Ct. of Ap., 1981)..

The irony in this lies with the fact that those incarcerated against their will ARE entitled to [police] protection. [citation omitted].

Simply folks doing what the courts have said we are responsible for- our own safety [and the safety of others, as state law permits].

In Warren v. District of Columbia (1981), the D.C. Court of Appeals ruled, "official police personnel and the government employing them are not generally liable to victims of criminal acts for failure to provide adequate police protection . . . a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any particular citizen."

In Bowers v. DeVito (1982), the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled, "[T]here is no constitutional right to be protected by the state against being murdered by criminals or madmen."

These rulings are still the law of the land. Gun control is hitting your target.

My son-in-law, David Benke, was the teacher who tackled the man who shoot the two Bear Creek Middle School students in Littleton, Co last February. David was raised on a farm in Texas and he grew up knowing how to use firearms. Because of his knowledge of firearms, he understood he probably had the time to tackle the shooter. It was because of David's knowlege that he was able to stop this sick man and save the lives of others. Of course David is a hero and he risked his life, but he had the skills to make this possible. The bottom line is knowledge is power.
