I was asked 2 questions by a new comer that I have never been asked before. So here is my reply based on beliefs and experiences.
What would be the top 10 things you would take in the event of an evacuation?

  1. The Berkey water purifier that I endorse even if it’s only the Sports bottle. And I do mean #1!
  2. A 90 day portable food supply such as fits in 2 boxes as seen on my show.
  3. Shelter devices such as a small tent, sleeping bag, tarps, rope.
  4. A couple of knives (Swiss, hunting), wood matches, magnesium flint, and or acetyl alcohol for fuel because it can store in a plastic water bottle.
  5. A mess kit with metal utensils, head band flashlight, and First Aid kit.
  6. First, a hand gun, second, a shotgun and third, a rifle with ammo. I would not leave these behind if I have them.
  7. A trailer or a cart that looks like a pioneer hand cart but has pneumatic tires or the Super Kitchen I endorse which loads in a pickup truck which I highly recommend for major cities.
  8. A compass with 3 maps. One of your local area, another of just your state, and the entire USA as a third.
  9. Previously prepared personal important documents miniaturized in a zip lock bag and Scriptures in miniature size.
  10. A hand crank or solar powered radio. A previously prepared check list on top of the whole kit and caboodle for a quick check. It’s easy to forget something important under stress.

P.S. If you travel more than 5 miles to work, I would keep my 72 hour / 14 day kit in my car at all times, not at home!

In descending order of frequency, the 78 readers that responded to my latest survey recommended the following non-fiction books on preparedness, self-sufficiency, and practical skills:

The Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery (Far and away the most often-mentioned book. This book is an absolute “must” for every well-prepared family!)

The Foxfire Book
series (in 11 volumes, but IMHO, the first five are the best)

Holy Bible

Where There Is No Dentist by Murray Dickson

Rawles on Retreats and Relocation”

Making the Best of Basics: Family Preparedness Handbook by James Talmage
