Solar K-Light

6 Comments 15 June 2009

The problem with solar or crank powered lanterns and radios is that they don’t run for very long off a single charge. But the new solar lantern from PiSAT changes all of the that. The K-Light  provides a 1:2 ratio of charge time to light, meaning that for every hour the lantern is charged it provides two hours of light. Charge it for a day, you will get about two nights of light. At $50, the K-Light is an affordable and efficient workhorse.  The K-Light has some other notable features as well:

  • LED Lantern or Flashlight
  • 100% Solar-powered
  • No Batteries Required
  • Highly Water-resistant
  • Small, Rugged & Lightweight
  • 120 Lumens

Like the lantern – although you can get some really efficient hand crank lanterns now. Mine are 12v, which means I can charge them from a car battery, or use one of those solar trickle chargers, or if I'm feeling really energetic, a 20 minute crank gives me 2 hours of light. Better still, they're made in the UK (where I live) rather than China.

    • Good point, I have the Lifegear crank lantern which gives 45 mins of light (on low) for 1 minute of cranking, which is pretty good. But it would be a lot easier if it was solar (and the extra features kill that battery time).

Like your website, Survivalspot (although I'm puzzled as to how you found me, although I'm a survivalist, I haven't commented on any survival blogs before – except Jim Rawles' SurvivalBlog which doesn't use a forum as such.)

        • Thank you, I believe I found you through another comment you made? I can't remember. Rawles has a great blog that's for sure, recently our sprouting article was posted on survivalblog.com

Yes, I read the sprouting article. I'm a big fan of sprouting myself – that might be where you found me, I did comment on a sprouting site.
