Top 10 space ideas

I was asked 2 questions by a new comer that I have never been asked before. So here is my reply based on beliefs and experiences.
What would be the top 10 things you would take in the event of an evacuation?

  1. The Berkey water purifier that I endorse even if it’s only the Sports bottle. And I do mean #1!
  2. A 90 day portable food supply such as fits in 2 boxes as seen on my show.
  3. Shelter devices such as a small tent, sleeping bag, tarps, rope.
  4. A couple of knives (Swiss, hunting), wood matches, magnesium flint, and or acetyl alcohol for fuel because it can store in a plastic water bottle.
  5. A mess kit with metal utensils, head band flashlight, and First Aid kit.
  6. First, a hand gun, second, a shotgun and third, a rifle with ammo. I would not leave these behind if I have them.
  7. A trailer or a cart that looks like a pioneer hand cart but has pneumatic tires or the Super Kitchen I endorse which loads in a pickup truck which I highly recommend for major cities.
  8. A compass with 3 maps. One of your local area, another of just your state, and the entire USA as a third.
  9. Previously prepared personal important documents miniaturized in a zip lock bag and Scriptures in miniature size.
  10. A hand crank or solar powered radio. A previously prepared check list on top of the whole kit and caboodle for a quick check. It’s easy to forget something important under stress.

P.S. If you travel more than 5 miles to work, I would keep my 72 hour / 14 day kit in my car at all times, not at home!

These are in my order of importance. I also realize that some on this list have more than one item. In reality you would take more than 10 items even if you were in a hurry. Taking only 10 item is not realistic or fair. Having a concealed weapons permit takes care of the hand gun. It is on me 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. And for those of you wondering, yes in church. Whereas the 15 top leaders of my church currently have armed body guards with real oozies literally strapped under their arms (as seen with my own eyes, not a rumor) under their suit coats when these leaders speak in public. Whereas those Amish children we all read about were murdered in school which was used as a church on Sunday. Whereas the tattooed faced convict killed his escort guard in a local university hospital while doing a test which we all saw and read about. Trolley square, Virginia Tech, etc. etc. Therefore, there is no safe place not to carry a gun except maybe a temple and the FBI carry their weapons everywhere per company policy including the temple. They don’t leave them in their cars. Just make these things a matter of prayer.
The second question was about storing food in a small apartment.
Another thing, for those of us that live in the city and in apartments, how do you recommend the storage of 1-5 years supply of food and necessities ?

There is enough space in an apartment to store 3 to five years of food in #10 cans and 5 gallon buckets. You would ideally keep the #10 cans in their original cardboard box cases. (6 cans to a case.) The various ways you could do it are as follows. You have to think up instead of just floor space.
#1. Just as 2 bunk beds will fit in a ten by ten room opposite each other, you can elevate your bed and stack the food items beneath. You could run a small ladder or step stool to get into bed. You can use the cases of food in the boxes as risers if you place a 3/4 inch thick six by six inch plate of plywood under each base post to spread the weight or an entire sheet of 3/4 inch plywood as a base on top of all your stacked food. You can also stack the food first and then put the bed together on top of it.
This of course would be for small children or teen agers to sleep on. No obese adults. I currently have lifts for each post which I purchased at Bed Bath & Beyond which raise our beds an additional 12 inches. We have a skirt around the whole thing and a lot of food in there.
#2. You can buy a bunk bed at a thrift store or at a garage sale and put it together in your room. Next, do not put the second bed on the lower level. Now fill the void with 5 gallon buckets and then your #10 cans in cases several layers on top of that til you fill the void. Staple a skirt around the base of the top bunk bed and lift with your hands to access.
#3. An entry closet is generally used for coats for you and your guests. Stack the food on the floor several levels til you get to the bottom of the coats. For asthetics in examples 1-3, you can place a decorative blanket or material of some sort like a skirt on a bed around your food, below your beds etc.
#4. The tops of closet shelves can be used to stack light weight cases. Usually, there is a lot of wasted space at the top of a closet shelf. I have installed a whole other shelf six to 10 inches above my standard shelves in our closets.
#5. Some places like mine have an unfinished or unused fireplace. I have stacked a considerable amount of both buckets and cases in mine and dropped a curtain. As there is no mantle, I put a book case in front of the curtain.
#6. You can stack under a dresser and put a material skirt around that too.
#7. Have you seen a lamp table with a skirt to the floor? Use food storage instead of legs.
#8. Raise your couch one level of #10 cans or more, Put down a plate of wood to distribute your weight and a skirt to hide it and be aesthetically appealing.
#9. This next one is a little much but do-able. Place cases of #10 cans on the entire empty floor filling the bedroom completely except for a square area where the door has to swing open into the room. Put down a layer of plywood. Now fill your room with furniture. When you enter the room, you step up one level like a step. That’s a lot of food.
#10. Now that you have a new perspective on storing food, look at your surroundings and think about up and under instead of all over the floor. You can also think from the ceiling down. Example: Install a shelf, mounted to the ceiling joists (Not drywall) and then fill said shelves with food. Cover with something to hide it. You could staple the cloth all the way around it and then lift it manually like a curtain.
#11. Be in tune with the spirit. Ask what you should do to be prepared. Don’t just do what someone else says you should do. Such as having a gun or trailer or handcart available to transport your food. You may be warned in advance to leave the city by revelation or by leadership. You may even have to leave the food behind. We are told that many will arrive with just the clothes on their backs.

P.P.S.S. There is a product that I have successfully recommended for years that works on skin cancer, moles, wrinkles under your eyes, scars from accidents, surgery and teenage acne scars. It will no longer be manufactured or sold after December 27, 2007. It is simply being discontinued. It’s about $30 a 6 oz. tube. I am buying a few for myself as it has a 10 year shelf life. If interested, e-mail me and I will give you the 800# and a control # to order it without joining anything as it will be gone forever.
