He is an excellent preparedness blogger, check out his other blogs over at <a href=\"http:\/\/hotdogjam.wordpress.com\/\" class=\"broken_link\">http:\/\/hotdogjam.wordpress.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You should have a candle lantern in your BOB, or one should be a part of your preps.\u00a0 This is a candle lantern opened.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.survival-spot.com\/survival-blog\/candle-lanterns-abraham\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.survival-spot.com\/survival-images\/ab1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"412\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This one is made out of brass.\u00a0 Brass is good.\u00a0 Notice the handle and the little hook.\u00a0 Although they say you shouldn\u2019t use flames in a tent, if you camp sometimes your tent will get damp from the moisture in your breath.\u00a0 Not sure of the science behind it, but this little flame will keep the condensation down in your tent.\u00a0\u00a0 Hanging one of these in your tent will help to keep the tent, your gear and you dry.\u00a0 Handles and hooks make it easy to hang.<br \/>\nYou can see the spring through the opening in the base.\u00a0 The spring keeps moving the candle up as it burns.\u00a0 Through the window you can also see how much candle is left.\u00a0 The candles that burn in these things are long-lasting.\u00a0 I think each candle burns for about three hours.\u00a0 They also come in citronella scented variety to keep bugs away.<br \/>\nTo replace the candle you unscrew the base.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.survival-spot.com\/survival-images\/ab2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"412\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here you see the base is unscrewed and removed.\u00a0 Next you unscrew the black thing from where the candle sits.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.survival-spot.com\/survival-images\/ab3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"572\" height=\"429\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can see the stubby candle here.\u00a0 When it runs down all the way you just put a new candle in the metal holder then stick the whole thing back in the lantern and tighten it up.<br \/>\nThey don\u2019t give off a lot of heat, but as many have blogged about, if you wrap yourself up pretty tight in a space blanket and poncho and keep one of these burning it\u2019ll keep you from freezing to death.<br \/>\nThey also give off enough heat to use the top of the lantern as a mini-stove.\u00a0 You could definitely heat water or cocoa in a Sierra cup on the top of one of these.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.survival-spot.com\/survival-images\/ab4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"574\" height=\"431\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the lantern closed up with the handle flipped down to keep it closed.\u00a0 You can see how small it is, great for backpacking or a BOB.\u00a0 It\u2019s maybe 3-4\u201d tall when closed.<br \/>\nThese are great for power failures and because of the glass chimney they don\u2019t get blown out by the wind.<br \/>\nI think the aluminum ones run for $15 or so and the brass maybe $20.\u00a0 The candles are kind of expensive at maybe a buck a piece.\u00a0 As with all candles you need to be careful.\u00a0 Please don\u2019t set yourself, your kids or your house on fire.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nGittin outside pics-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.survival-spot.com\/survival-images\/ab5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"587\" height=\"442\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By now you should know this is a deer rubbing.\u00a0 It looks like a little juniper to me.<br \/>\nAnd good deer tracks in the snow.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.survival-spot.com\/survival-images\/ab6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"542\" height=\"407\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Much thanks to Abraham for writing this guest post for us.
