The Survival Stove
Obtain cooking temperatures of up to 1,200°F with only a few AA batteries. The Survival Stove from Garrett Wade is a light, easy to carry cook stove that makes cooking outdoors simple (even in cold weather conditions). The Survival Stove will burn any dry fuel, which is then supercharged by the stoves internal fan. The fan helps create intense heat in the base of stove, making your fuel go farther.

It looks and sounds like a New & Improved Sierra Stove. A suggestion from having used the Sierra- get a portable solar charger for AA Batteries (make sure that its the type that will let you use the batteries as a power source) that has a DC Out plug, some Ni Cad rechargeable batteries (don't know if Li Ion would be safe for this application). Next put the rechargeable batteries into the charger, and get 'em fully charged.

When you are ready to use the stove, plug into the charging unit and let 'er rip! What's happening is you are using the batteries to 'even out' the solar chargers output, or just using the batteries when the solar cells have no output. You should get about two years use out of the batteries before they won't hold a usable charge, so having spares never hurts.

Remember the definition of a flashlight- a metal container that holds dead batteries.

  2. This is great information. I'm really thinking of taking this little Garrett Wade stove to the Yukon with me and I will have a Solar charger for this type of battery and for my camera batteries. I really had not considered taking a stove, but now thinking real hard about this one. For 90 days Alone in the Yukon, I know there will be times I wont want to start a fire. The campfire will have coals that I will keep hot for a long time, but there will still be times this would stove would be nice for. In a way, its a Luxury item.

  3. This is really nice post and I loved this survival stove. Its very innovative and I am sure it would be very convenient. I think this stove can make my work more easy. I can pick up this stove and can go anywhere with it. I like this idea. This kind of stove can use anywhere while camping or trekking. Good Job, I liked it.

The fan is a great idea! I have taken a fan out to my BBQ Pit several times to whip the coals into a white hot inferno. Those steaks seared perfectly! Sherry, I agree that you should take this stove with you. Something that puts out that amount of heat will be very welcome in the Yukon.

  5. Perhaps someone should make one with a steel spring that can be rewound even while the stove is being used. That way, we wouldn't have carry batteries that can run down.
